Resume help: Should I include this (see details)?

I'm writing a resume for my FIRST teaching job. I found a really good example in an old textbook that shows me sections that would be best to use for this. Here are my questions:

1. Should I add non child-related employment to my employment history?

2. If so, how much of that should I include?

3. How far back in my employment history and my nonprofessional teaching experience should I go?

A. I can go all the way back to 1999 with my nonprofessional teaching experience, but it would take up 2 or 3 pages and I know resumes should be 2 pages max.

B. My current employment includes both child-related (substitute teaching, etc.) and non.

C. I can go back as far as May of 2006 with child-related employment, but have no child-related employment from August 2005-May 2006.

D. In the above time frame I worked 4 different jobs with as many as 3 at the same time.

Use all child-related employment for sure.

Use any non child-related employment where you were employed for a significant amount of time (a year or more) and know you will get a good recommendation from your boss there.

Anything that shows your ability to use communication with people, organization skills, leadership skills, etc. will be beneficial.

I wouldn't use more than 2 non-childrelated employements.
Reply:If you've had that many jobs since 1999, I would not include it. They will wonder why you've had so many . . . I've been an interviewer for teaching positions, TRUST ME, I know what they discuss after you leave.

Resumes should ONLY be 1 page.

Include substitute teaching under employment and ONE non-teaching experience.

Also list honors and awards and volunteer information.

Good luck to you.
Reply:I would include all the jobs you have ever held. I would however mention the non relevant portions of said employment only with a bullet while emphasizing the relevant portions. If you use short, bullet type statements you can put more relevant information into a shorter resume.
Reply:Anything more than 5-years old that does not relate to what you're applying for should probably not be included.

The fact that you worked several child-related jobs at one time over a 3-5 year period would be much more relavent to an potential education-related employer.

Good luck!! We need more dedicated teachers!
